Nail Art: Glam Rock Nails

Glam Rock Nail Art

Believe it or not, there are only 3 days left until the big game starts – are you all as excited about the Olympic games as British folks? Well, I hope so, because this week’s nail art is everything about ‘Go! Britain!’ :)

I was determined to have Union Jack as my main design, but then I wasn’t sure which style I wanted to go for; pop, chic or retro? I did a quick research on Union Jack nail art designs, and oh, I was even more confused because there were too many choices!

Aren’t these just too pretty (photo credit: Let’s Beauty (the photo top), es Nail(the photo bottom))? My heart was set on the cute pastel one – until I found this design.

Oh yes, come on you, glam rock nail art (photo credit: es Nail)! This is ridiculously bling-bling and kind of granny-pop (if there were such a word), and it instantly makes me feel like getting dressed and going out!!! So… Olympic-y or not, I am so going to enjoy wearing the design :)

* For this week’s how-to, I’m going to do one finger at a time, because… they sound too confusing otherwise.

** You’ll need lots and lots of glitters for this nail art, in different colours and sizes. Don’t have any? Go and look for a craft/stationery shop!

How to get the look:

<thumb>

  1. Apply base coat.
  2. Apply two coats of black polish.
  3. When the polish is completely dry, place masking tapes (I cut mine into 1mm and 2mm wide). Apply gold polish, silver polish and glitter powders (fine glitters) between the masking tapes with clear nail polish.
  4. Peel off the masking tapes, and add glitters on each polish/glitter powders.
  5. Apply thick (I mean it, a thick one) top coat.

<index finger>

  1. Apply base coat.
  2. Apply two coats of black polish on bottom half of your index finger, and two coats of silver polish on top half.
  3. Add silver glitters on top half, and pink glitters on bottom half.
  4. Apply thick top coat.

<middle finger>

  1. Apply base coat.
  2. Apply two coats of black polish.
  3. Cut a lightning bolt shape out of masking tape, place it on the finger, and apply blue glitter powder with clear nail polish.
  4. Peel off the masking tape, and add gold glitters around the nail using clear nail polish.
  5. Apply a top coat.

<ring finger>

  1. Apply base coat.
  2. Apply two coats of white shimmery polish.
  3. When the polish is completely dry, place masking tapes; make ‘+’ shape with 3mm wide tapes, and ‘X’ shape with 1mm wide tapes.
  4. Apply blue glitter powder with clear nail polish, peel off the masking tapes, then add pink glitters on top of the white lines.
  5. Apply thick top coat.

<little finger>

  1. Apply base coat.
  2. Apply two coats of black polish on bottom half of your index finger, and two coats of gold polish on top half.
  3. Add gold glitters on top half, and pink glitters on bottom half.
  4. Apply thick top coat.

I. Love. It. I know, it isn’t that ‘Olympic-y’ design, but hell yeah, it shouts ‘London’! And the best part is that it isn’t too difficult to achieve – yes, there are so many steps and takes some time, but they are all quite straightforward.

The bad thing is – I can see myself taking very long time trying to get these glitters off. But that can wait for at least a week, so I’m just going to enjoy this bling :)

P.S. If there are any design that you’d like me to try, I’d love to know! I’m quite open to crazy ideas, too (well, you know me, sweets)!

  1. THIS IS GORGEOUS! I’d want to try the pastel UK flag series u posted above:3 and BTW which topcoat did you use mostly? love the jelly-ish finishing of yr nails:)

  2. Thanks for stopping by, Dany! I got the round glitters in Japan – I’ve searched UK nail art supply shops for quite some time, but couldn’t find them here…

  3. Hi! I love them! THey are so shiny! I was wondering where did you got the round glitters?

  4. Sorry I didn’t make it clear, Sabrina!

    What I meant is, cut a lightning bolt shape out of masking tape, and stick the masking tape with the lightning bolt shape hole (NOT the lightning bolt shape) on your nail, and fill the lightning bolt shape hole with nail polish.

    Hope this makes sense!

  5. Woah, these are so cool! After reading the guide for the lighting bolt nail, I’m still confused how to do it. Do you cut an outline of a lightning bolt in masking tape and stick it on your nail?

  6. Thanks Tanuki :) But I’m still far from the perfection of the original one!

  7. Love how you create such a look with glitters! It’s certainly glam rock, but somehow quite elegant as well:)

  8. Thanks Masha, and the design on thumb is my favourite, too!

  9. W-O-W! I especially like the look on thumb and middle finger. :)
